General Description of ALDH1A1.
ALDH1A1 belongs to the ALDH enzymes, a family of evolutionarily conserved enzymes comprised of 19 isoforms that are localized in the cytoplasm, mitochondria or nucleus. ALDH1A1 is predominantly expressed in the epithelium of testis, brain, eye, liver, kidney, as well as neural and hematopoietic stem cells. Reportedly, high ALDH1A1 expression is found in solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) and hemangiopericytoma (HPC), compared to meningiomas and synovial sarcomas. In combination with CD34, ALDH1A1 may be useful for the differentiation among SFT, HPC, meningioma, and synovial sarcoma.

ALDH1A1 Previously Observed Antibody Staining Patterns

Observed Subcellular, Organelle Specific Staining Data:

Anti-ALDH1A1 antibody staining is expected to be primarily localized to the cytosol.

Observed Antibody Staining Data By Tissue Type:

Variations in ALDH1A1 antibody staining intensity in immunohistochemistry on tissue sections are present across different anatomical locations. An intense signal was observed in glandular cells in the epididymis, stomach. More moderate antibody staining intensity was present in glandular cells in the epididymis, stomach. Low, but measureable presence of ALDH1A1 could be seen inbile duct cells in the liver, cells in the endometrial stroma in endometrium, cells in the molecular layer in cerebellum, cells in the tubules in kidney, epidermal cells in the skin, fibroblasts in skin, germinal center cells in the tonsil, glandular cells in the appendix, duodenum and small intestine, hematopoietic cells in the bone marrow, Leydig cells in the testis, lymphoid tissue in appendix, macrophages in lung, neuronal cells in the caudate nucleus and hippocampus, ovarian stroma cells in the ovary, pneumocytes in lung, respiratory epithelial cells in the nasopharynx and squamous epithelial cells in the tonsil. We were unable to detect ALDH1A1 in other tissues. Disease states, inflammation, and other physiological changes can have a substantial impact on antibody staining patterns. These measurements were all taken in tissues deemed normal or from patients without known disease.

Observed Antibody Staining Data By Tissue Disease Status:

Tissues from cancer patients, for instance, have their own distinct pattern of ALDH1A1 expression as measured by anti-ALDH1A1 antibody immunohistochemical staining. The average level of expression by tumor is summarized in the table below. The variability row represents patient to patient variability in IHC staining.

Sample Type breast cancer carcinoid cervical cancer colorectal cancer endometrial cancer glioma head and neck cancer liver cancer lung cancer lymphoma melanoma ovarian cancer pancreatic cancer prostate cancer renal cancer skin cancer stomach cancer testicular cancer thyroid cancer urothelial cancer
