General Description of Factor XIIIa.
This MAb recognizes a protein of 83kDa, which is identified as Factor XIIIa. It has been identified in platelets, megakaryocytes, and fibroblast-like mesenchymal or histiocytic cells in the placenta, uterus, and prostate, monocytes and macrophages and dermal dendritic cells. Anti-factor XIIIa has been found to be useful in differentiating between dermatofibroma (almost all cases are positive), dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (-/+) and desmoplastic malignant melanoma (-). Anti-factor XIIIa positivity is also seen in capillary hemagioblastoma, hemangioendothelioma, hemangiopericytoma, xanthogranuloma, xanthoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, glomus tumor, and meningioma.

Factor XIIIa Previously Observed Antibody Staining Patterns

Observed Antibody Staining Data By Tissue Type:

Variations in Factor XIIIa antibody staining intensity in immunohistochemistry on tissue sections are present across different anatomical locations. An intense signal was observed in fibroblasts in mesenchymal tissue. More moderate antibody staining intensity was present in fibroblasts in mesenchymal tissue. Low, but measureable presence of Factor XIIIa could be seen inadipocytes in mesenchymal tissue and Leydig cells in the testis. We were unable to detect Factor XIIIa in other tissues. Disease states, inflammation, and other physiological changes can have a substantial impact on antibody staining patterns. These measurements were all taken in tissues deemed normal or from patients without known disease.
