General Description of Inhibin .
Inhibin is a dimeric glycoprotein hormone from the TGF-beta family made of alpha and beta subunits. This antibody recognizes the 32kDa alpha subunit of human inhibin. Inhibin alpha is expressed in a wide variety of human tissues, such as brain, prostate, adrenal, granulose cells of ovary, sertoli cells of testis and in fetoplacental unit.

Antibody (Suitable for clinical applications)

Inhibin Information for Pathologists

Summary:

Inhibin is a heterodimeric protein (with alpha and beta subunits) that inhibits or activates pituitary FSH secretion. Serum levels elevated (2x) in women with Down fetus. Positive staining - normal Sertoli cells (diffuse and strong), granulosa cells, prostate, brain, adrenal. Positive staining - disease

Common Uses By Pathologists:

Normal sertoli cells (diffuse and strong), granulosa cells, prostate, brain, and adrenal as well as Sex-cord stromal tumors, including Sertoli cell tumors, adrenocortical tumors, placental and gestational trophoblastic lesions, granular cell tumors of gallbladder and extrahepatic bile ducts (Am J Surg Pathol 2001;25:1200), and some carcinomas stain positive for Inhibin A. Primary ovarian carcinomas are usually negative for the protein.
