Lambda Light Chain General Information

General Description of Lambda Light Chain .
Each immunoglobulin molecule consists of two identical heavy chains and two identical light chains. There are two types of light chains designated as kappa and lambda. The gene rearrangement process that generates the immunoglobulin molecule results in either a productive kappa or lambda gene. The mechanics of the rearrangement process normally produce approximately twice as many kappa-bearing cells as lambda. However this ratio is lost during malignant transformation. The lambda light chain antibody labels the lambda light chain that expresses normal and neoplastic B lymphocytes and plasma cells. Other cells may also express lambdalight chain due to nonspecific uptake of immunoglobulin. Individual B cells express either kappa or lambda light chains. Monoclonality is generally assumed to be evidence of a malignant proliferation. The pairing of a kappa with a lambda light chain antibody is useful for identifying monoclonality of lymphoid malignancies.

Lambda Light Chain Information for Pathologists

Summary:

Type of immunoglobulin light chain. Kappa/lambda ratio is usually 2:1. Restricted expression of either kappa or lambda suggests monoclonality and a neoplastic process. Microscopic (histologic) images Images hosted on Pathout server:.

Limitations and Warranty

This antibody is manufactured in accordance with clinical good manufacturing practices in an ISO13485:2016 certified production facility. It is intended for multiple uses including in vitro diagnostic use and research use only applications. Please see vial label for expiration date.
