General Description of S-100 Beta .
S100 Beta is a homodimeric member of the S100 superfamily. S100 is a family of Ca2+-binding proteins, comprises 19 members that are differentially expressed in a large number of cell types. The protein has been implicated in cellular processes such as cell differentiation and growth. S100 Beta is abundant in glial cells of the central and peripheral nervous system, in melanocytes, chondrocytes, and adipocytes. Antibody to S100 Beta also labels Langerhans cells, histiocytes, epithelial, myoepithelial cells and integrating reticular cells of lymphoid tissue, and tumors originated from these cells. S100 Beta is a useful marker for diagnosis of melanoma, tumors of nervous system.

S-100 Beta Information for Pathologists

Summary:

S100B may be important in a variety of cellular processes including stimulation of Ca2+ fluxes, inhibition of PKC-mediated phosphorylation, and inhibition of microtubule assembly. It plays a role in proliferation of melanoma cells, neurite extension, astrocytosis and axonal proliferation. S100B is glial-specific and is expressed primarily by astrocytes, but not all astrocytes express S100B. It has been shown that S100B is only expressed by a subtype of mature astrocytes that ensheath blood vessels and by NG2-expressing cells.

Limitations and Warranty

This antibody is manufactured in accordance with clinical good manufacturing practices in an ISO13485:2016 certified production facility. It is intended for multiple uses including in vitro diagnostic use and research use only applications. Please see vial label for expiration date. We strive to always deliver antibodies with a shelf life of at least two years.
