Summary:Thymidine Phosphorylase (also called Platelet-Derived Endothelial Cell Growth Factor or PD-ECG) regulates thymidine phosphorylation. It is involved in purine metabolism/pyrimidine metabolism and may play a role in bladder cancer, and mitochondrial neurogastrointestinal encephalomyopathy (MNGIE).
Common Uses By Pathologists:Cancer patients often present with high levels of Thymidine Phosphorylase (TP). High intracellular staining for TP is indicative of tumor sensitivty to fluoropyrimidines such as apecitabine, Carmofur, Doxifluridine, or Fluorouracil.
