Associated Diseases (KEGG IDs)Chorea, hereditary benign (BHC) [MIM:118700]: A rare autosomal dominant movement disorder, defined by early onset in childhood, a stable or non-progressive course of chorea, and no mental deterioration. Chorea is characterized by involuntary, forcible, rapid, jerky movements that may be subtle or become confluent, markedly altering normal patterns of movement. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:11971878, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15955952, ECO:0000269|PubMed:24453141, ECO:0000269|PubMed:26723978}. The disease is caused by mutations affecting the gene represented in this entry.; Choreoathetosis and congenital hypothyroidism with or without pulmonary dysfunction (CAHTP) [MIM:610978]: An autosomal dominant disorder that manifests in infancy with neurological disturbances, hypothyroidism, and respiratory problems. It is characterized by movement abnormalities beginning with muscular hypotonia followed by the development of chorea, athetosis, dystonia, ataxia, and dysarthria. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:11854318, ECO:0000269|PubMed:11854319, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15289765, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15955952, ECO:0000269|PubMed:24714694}. The disease is caused by mutations affecting the gene represented in this entry.; Thyroid cancer, non-medullary, 1 (NMTC1) [MIM:188550]: A form of non-medullary thyroid cancer (NMTC), a cancer characterized by tumors originating from the thyroid follicular cells. NMTCs represent approximately 95% of all cases of thyroid cancer and are classified into papillary, follicular, Hurthle cell, and anaplastic neoplasms. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:19176457}. Disease susceptibility is associated with variations affecting the gene represented in this entry.
General Description of Thyroid Transcription Factor-1, Thyroid and Lung Epithelial Marker .
This antibody is specific to a 40 kDa protein, which is identified as thyroid transcription factor (TTF-1). TTF-1 is expressed in epithelial cells of the thyroid gland and lung. TTF-1 stains primary lung adenocarcinoma and small cell carcinoma but does not stain colon and breast carcinoma.

Thyroid Transcription Factor-1, Thyroid and Lung Epithelial Marker Information for Pathologists

Summary:

Thyroid transcription factor, also called thyroid specific enhancer binding protein. 38 kDa nuclear protein that regulates transcription activity of thyroid (thyroglobulin, thyroperoxidase, sodium-iodide transport protein, calcitonin and MHC class I), lung (surfactant proteins A, B and C, Clara cell secretory protein) and diencephalon specific genes. Mutations cause pulmonary hypoplasia and neonatal death. Specificity depends on antibody clone used. Interpretation: nuclear stain.

Common Uses By Pathologists:

Distinguish primary (TTF1+) vs. metastatic (usually TTF1-) lung carcinoma. Distinguish pulmonary adenocarcinoma (TTF1+) from squamous cell carcinoma (usually TTF1-). Pleural lung carcinoma (TTF1+) vs. mesothelioma (TTF1-). Pulmonary small cell carcinoma (TTF1+) vs. Merkel cell carcinoma (TTF1-). Microscopic (histologic) images

Limitations and Warranty

This antibody is manufactured in accordance with clinical good manufacturing practices in an ISO13485:2016 certified production facility. It is intended for multiple uses including in vitro diagnostic use and research use only applications. Please see vial label for expiration date. We strive to always deliver antibodies with a shelf life of at least two years.
