General Description of von Willebrand Factor / Factor VIII Related-Ag.
von Willebrand Factor (vWF) is a multimeric glycoprotein that is found in endothelial cells, plasma, platelets. It acts as a carrier protein for Factor VIII, promotes platelet adhesion, aggregation. vWF undergoes a variety of posttranslational modifications that influence the affinity, availability for Factor VIII, including cleavage of the propeptide, formation of N-terminal disulfide bonds. This antibody helps to establish the endothelial nature of some lesions of disputed histogenesis, e.g. Kaposis sarcoma, cardiac myxoma. It is widely used for differentiating vascular lesions from those of other tissue differentiation within a panel of other vascular markers although not all tumors of endothelial differentiation contain this antigen.

von Willebrand Factor / Factor VIII Related-Ag Previously Observed Antibody Staining Patterns

Observed Antibody Staining Data By Tissue Type:

Variations in von Willebrand Factor / Factor VIII Related-Ag antibody staining intensity in immunohistochemistry on tissue sections are present across different anatomical locations. An intense signal was observed in endothelial cells in the cerebral cortex, colon. More moderate antibody staining intensity was present in endothelial cells in the cerebral cortex, colon. Low, but measureable presence of von Willebrand Factor / Factor VIII Related-Ag could be seen infibroblasts in skin, keratinocytes in skin, Langerhans in skin, melanocytes in skin, adipocytes in mesenchymal tissue and fibroblasts in mesenchymal tissue. We were unable to detect von Willebrand Factor / Factor VIII Related-Ag in other tissues. Disease states, inflammation, and other physiological changes can have a substantial impact on antibody staining patterns. These measurements were all taken in tissues deemed normal or from patients without known disease.
