Human and Rat (weak) Anti-CD31 / PECAM-1 Antibody Product Attributes
CD31 / PECAM-1 Previously Observed Antibody Staining Patterns
Observed Antibody Staining Data By Tissue Type:
Variations in CD31 / PECAM-1 antibody staining intensity in immunohistochemistry on tissue sections are present across different anatomical locations. An intense signal was observed in endothelial cells in the colon, cells in the glomeruli in kidney, smooth muscle cells in the smooth muscle and cells in the red pulp in spleen. More moderate antibody staining intensity was present in endothelial cells in the colon, cells in the glomeruli in kidney, smooth muscle cells in the smooth muscle and cells in the red pulp in spleen. Low, but measureable presence of CD31 / PECAM-1 could be seen inmacrophages in lung. We were unable to detect CD31 / PECAM-1 in other tissues. Disease states, inflammation, and other physiological changes can have a substantial impact on antibody staining patterns. These measurements were all taken in tissues deemed normal or from patients without known disease.

General Description of CD31 / PECAM-1. | |
CD31 (PECAM-1) is a transmembrane glycoprotein member of the immunoglobulin supergene family of adhesion molecules. CD31 is expressed by stem cells of the hematopoietic system, is primarily used to identify, concentrate these cells for experimental studies as well as for bone marrow transplantation. Anti-CD31 has shown to be highly specific, sensitive for vascular endothelial cells. Staining of nonvascular tumors (excluding hematopoietic neoplasms) is rare. CD31 MAb reacts with normal, benign,, malignant endothelial cells which make up blood vessel lining. The level of CD31 expression can help to determine the degree of tumor angiogenesis,, a high level of CD31 expression may imply a rapidly growing tumor, potentially a predictor of tumor recurrence. |
