Low, but measureable presence of Glycophorin A / CD235a could be seen in. We were unable to detect Glycophorin A / CD235a in other tissues. Disease states, inflammation, and other physiological changes can have a substantial impact on antibody staining patterns. These measurements were all taken in tissues deemed normal or from patients without known disease.

| General Description of Glycophorin A / CD235a. | |
| Recognizes a sialoglycoprotein of 39kDa, identified as glycophorin A (GPA). It is present on red blood cells (RBC), erythroid precursor cells. It has been shown that glycophorin acts as the receptor for Sandei virus, parvovirus. Glycophorins A (GPA), B (GPB), which are single, trans-membrane sialoglycoproteins. GPA is the carrier of blood group M, N specificities, while GPB accounts for S, U specificities. GPA, GPB provide the cells with a large mucin like surface, it has been suggested this provides a barrier to cell fusion, so minimizing aggregation between red blood cells in the circulation. | |
