Prior to use, inspect vial for the presence of any precipitate or other unusual physical properties. These can indicate that the antibody has degraded and is no longer suitable for patient samples. Please run positive and negative controls simultaneously with all patient samples to account and control for errors in laboratory procedure. Use of methods or materials not recommended by enQuire Bio including change to dilution range and detection system should be routinely validated by the user.
S-100 Protein Information for Pathologists
Summary:
95 amino acid calcium-binding protein first purified from placenta in 1992 (Eur J Biochem 1992;207:541); 95 amino acid calcium-binding protein; may initiate carcinogenesis in some epithelial tumors. Caution: S100 (the neural / melanocytic marker) is also described as S100p or S100P in the literature. Pathophysiology Intracellular S100P interacts with ezrin, and extracellular S100P activates the receptor for advanced glycation endproducts. Associated with aggressive disease in peripheral intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (Am J Surg Pathol 2011;35:590).
Common Uses By Pathologists:
Diagnose pancreatic adenocarcinoma in FNA specimens (Am J Clin Pathol 2008;129:81, Diagn Cytopathol 2011 Apr 28 [Epub ahead of print]). Differentiate bile duct adenocarcinoma from reactive lesions at biopsy, as part of a immunohistochemical panel with pVHL and IMP3 (Hum Pathol 2010;41:1210). Differentiate urothelial carcinoma (S100P+ in 78-86%) from prostatic adenocarcinoma (S100P-). Possible biological indicator (due to downregulation) of cadmium toxicity in placentas (Sci Total Environ 2011;410:53). Microscopic (histologic) images

General Description of S-100 Protein . | |
This antibody reacts with cow S-100 protein a and b. It shows strong cross-reactivity with human S-100 a and b. In the brain, it labels glial and ependymal cells. Melanocytes and Langerhans cells of the skin stain positive with this antibody. |
