Antibody (Suitable for clinical applications)
Specification | Recommendation |
---|---|
Recommended Dilution (Conc) | 1:50-1:100 |
Pretreatment | No Pretreatment Required |
Incubation Parameters | 30 min at Room Temperature |
Prior to use, inspect vial for the presence of any precipitate or other unusual physical properties. These can indicate that the antibody has degraded and is no longer suitable for patient samples. Please run positive and negative controls simultaneously with all patient samples to account and control for errors in laboratory procedure. Use of methods or materials not recommended by enQuire Bio including change to dilution range and detection system should be routinely validated by the user.
ACTH Information for Pathologists
Summary:
Adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) is a peptide hormone secreted from the anterior pituitary gland that stimulates the adrenal cortex to secrete glucocorticoid hormones. The hormone comprises a long chain of amino acids that share a high degree of homology between humans, cows, pigs and sheep. Mature ACTH is derived from POMC cleavage in response to CRH release from the hypothalamus.
Common Uses By Pathologists:
ACTH immunostaining is useful for classifying pituitary tumors and other pituitary disease. It reacts with corticotrophs (cells that produce ACTH) including some small-cell carcinomas present in lung tissue which cause Paraneoplastic Syndromes.

Associated Diseases (KEGG IDs) | Obesity (OBESITY) [MIM:601665]: A condition characterized by an increase of body weight beyond the limitation of skeletal and physical requirements, as the result of excessive accumulation of body fat. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12165561}. Disease susceptibility may be associated with variations affecting the gene represented in this entry.; Obesity, early-onset, with adrenal insufficiency and red hair (OBAIRH) [MIM:609734]: An autosomal recessive disorder characterized by early-onset obesity due to severe hyperphagia, pigmentary abnormalities, mainly pale skin and red hair, and secondary hypocortisolism. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:9620771}. The disease is caused by mutations affecting the gene represented in this entry. |
General Description of ACTH . | |
This antibody is specific to an epitope on the N-terminus of ACTH. This antibody stains corticotrophs in the adenohypophysis and is useful in the classification of pituitary adenomas. |
