Prior to use, inspect vial for the presence of any precipitate or other unusual physical properties. These can indicate that the antibody has degraded and is no longer suitable for patient samples. Please run positive and negative controls simultaneously with all patient samples to account and control for errors in laboratory procedure. Use of methods or materials not recommended by enQuire Bio including change to dilution range and detection system should be routinely validated by the user.
S-100 Beta Information for Pathologists
Summary:
S100B may be important in a variety of cellular processes including stimulation of Ca2+ fluxes, inhibition of PKC-mediated phosphorylation, and inhibition of microtubule assembly. It plays a role in proliferation of melanoma cells, neurite extension, astrocytosis and axonal proliferation. S100B is glial-specific and is expressed primarily by astrocytes, but not all astrocytes express S100B. It has been shown that S100B is only expressed by a subtype of mature astrocytes that ensheath blood vessels and by NG2-expressing cells.

General Description of S-100 Beta . | |
S100 Beta is a homodimeric member of the S100 superfamily. S100 is a family of Ca2+-binding proteins, comprises 19 members that are differentially expressed in a large number of cell types. The protein has been implicated in cellular processes such as cell differentiation and growth. S100 Beta is abundant in glial cells of the central and peripheral nervous system, in melanocytes, chondrocytes, and adipocytes. Antibody to S100 Beta also labels Langerhans cells, histiocytes, epithelial, myoepithelial cells and integrating reticular cells of lymphoid tissue, and tumors originated from these cells. S100 Beta is a useful marker for diagnosis of melanoma, tumors of nervous system. |
